Why We Make Soma in a Village, Not a City

Why We Make Soma in a Village, Not a City

People sometimes assume Soma is made somewhere like Ljubljana — a city studio, a small commercial kitchen, something urban and efficient. It's not. Soma is made in Gorenja vas, a small village in Slovenia, and that was never an accident.

Slow, on purpose

I grew up between Brittany and Southeast Asia, and studied in Canada, the Netherlands, and Sweden — enough moving around to learn that wellbeing isn't really about any one place. It's an ecosystem: people, seasons, the small daily choices that quietly change everything.

Somewhere in all of that, I learned that the pace something is made at matters just as much as what it's made of. A village doesn't rush you. There's no efficiency pressure pushing you toward shortcuts, no reason to scale before something is actually ready. Small batches, made slowly, in a place that doesn't ask you to hurry — that's not a marketing choice. It's just the only way I know how to make something I actually want to drink myself.

What "small batch" really means here

It means the cacao, the matcha, the mushroom extracts are blended in quantities small enough that I can still taste-test each one personally. It means when a batch of Cacao ☾ comes together with a slightly stronger rose note than usual, I notice — because I'm the one making it, not overseeing a line.

It's slower. It's also the only way the ritual stays honest.

A village, and a promise

Soma began as a quiet promise to make wellness feel like something you want to come back to — tiny, consistent moments that gather over time into energy, calm, balance. That promise is easier to keep somewhere unhurried. Gorenja vas isn't just where Soma is made. It's part of why it tastes the way it does.
