Cozy October: A Spiced Cacao Ritual for Cooler Days
Somewhere in October, the cup itself starts asking for more — more warmth, more spice, a little more ceremony. This is a small upgrade to your usual Soma cacao ritual, built for exactly that.
Why spice matters more in autumn
Warming spices — cinnamon, ginger, clove, cardamom — aren't just about flavor. They add a sensory signal of warmth that pairs naturally with cooler air and shorter days, turning an everyday cup into something that feels a little more like ceremony. This is the same base ritual from our Building a Daily Ritual guide — just a seasonal upgrade to it.
The base ritual
Start with either Cacao ✹ for a morning cup, or Cacao ☾ for something later in the day.
- Warm your water or plant milk until hot, not boiling.
- Add one serving of your cacao blend to a mug.
- Pour in a small splash of hot liquid first, and whisk into a smooth paste.
- Top with the rest of the liquid and whisk again.
The October upgrade
Once your base cup is made, stir in:
- A pinch of ground cinnamon
- A small pinch of ground ginger
- One cracked cardamom pod, or a pinch of ground cardamom
- If you're using Cacao ☾: a single clove, for something deeper
Let it steep for thirty seconds before your first sip — the extra spice needs a moment to bloom into the liquid.
Make it a proper ritual
- Use a mug that feels good in your hands. Small, but it changes the whole experience.
- Add a splash of Soma Creamer if you want it richer and rounder — especially good on colder mornings.
- Sit somewhere you actually want to be for the two minutes it takes to drink it. Not at your desk, not mid-scroll.
A note on timing
If you're making the ☾ blend for an evening cup, keep the spice light rather than heavy — you want warmth, not a jolt. A whisper of clove is plenty.
The bigger idea
October doesn't need a whole new ritual. Just a small adjustment to the one you already have — a little more warmth, in the cup and around it. For more seasonal variations, see Autumn Reset and A Ritual for the Darker Evenings.
